City narrows Broadway intersection fixes after feedback, but a $2.5M gap remains

City staff updated the board on proposed fixes at Broadway/Littleton Boulevard and Broadway/Mineral Avenue, saying the team had reduced the scope from the full Broadway corridor "Cadillac" design because construction-level funding is limited. The reduced package targets immediate safety and operational needs while preserving the larger corridor vision for a later phase.
Staff acknowledged public feedback that the scaled-back fixes appear inconsistent with the Broadway corridor study’s full-build concepts and said the city will revise public communications to make the phased approach clearer. Staff said some funding will come from developer fees tied to nearby redevelopment and that the city has applied for grants and plans to use capital improvement sales-tax (3A) funds where appropriate. Even with these sources, staff estimated roughly a $2.5 million shortfall between the scaled immediate work and the broader corridor vision.
Interim city engineer Ray Hill introduced himself and described his oversight of transportation, water resources and capital projects; he emphasized connectivity, safety and aesthetic considerations as guiding principles for future intersection work. Staff said they will update online materials and return with a communications plan and revised funding breakdowns by mid-June.
