Zoning board recommends private hangar and office at New Century Air Center

The Johnson County Zoning Board unanimously recommended approval of a preliminary and final development plan for a private hangar and small office at New Century Air Center.
Michelle Liner, planning staff, described the proposal as a 1,200-square-foot hangar with a 1,000-square-foot attached office and vehicle parking with aircraft access to the runway. "The proposal meets requirements of the regulations and is consistent with the New Century Air Center airport land use compatibility plan," Liner said.
Michaela Brockmire, the project engineer, represented the applicant; no substantive public opposition appeared at the hearing. Jason Stler, manager of the neighboring FBO, attended to ask about the business intent but did not object. Board members noted the ongoing development activity at the airport and recommended approval.
The motion to recommend approval passed unanimously; the application will appear before the Board of County Commissioners on July 16 at 9:30 a.m.
The board recorded the decision as consistent with past airport-area approvals and said it continues to see expansion at the air center as part of normal growth in aviation-related businesses.
