Teachers and negotiators presented survey results that many supplemental (extra‑duty) assignments lack written job descriptions and that a majority of respondents were unaware of expected time commitments. The group considered contract language intended to require written descriptions of supplemental duties prior to signing supplemental contracts.
A teacher summarized the survey: 57% reported no written job description for supplementals they held; 66% said they had not been made aware of the time commitment when they accepted the role; 25% said duties had been added after signing. Negotiators said clarifying expectations could reduce later disputes over unpaid or unanticipated work and could help candidates decide whether to accept extra duties.
District staff said they will provide job descriptions and post them to the district website and share templates used by other districts, but they pushed back on language that would strictly limit duties to the written description. Administrators explained the practical difficulty of updating descriptions continuously for one‑off or evolving assignments (for example, athletic staff counts changing across seasons or program shifts in theater or debate). They offered to provide baseline descriptions and review processes through the supplemental committee rather than commit to never adding incidental duties.
The committee agreed to provide job descriptions and to keep the supplemental committee involved in reviewing changes. No binding change to contract language limiting duties was adopted on the record.
