City Engineer Christina Ramirez: Warriors Path Phase 2 delayed to March, costs up 2.24%

City Engineer Christina Ramirez told Harker Heights residents that construction of Warriors Path Phase 2 has incurred a 2.24% net cost increase and about 80 days added to the project schedule, and that the city now expects completion by the end of March 2026. Ramirez said the city awarded a $3.6 million contract to RT Schneider Construction in August 2024 and authorized the contractor to begin work on Oct. 1, 2024.

Ramirez said growth along Warriors Path over the past decade drove the need for the reconstruction, and noted that phase one was completed in 2020 alongside the opening of Nolan Middle School. The current phase covers roughly 0.41 miles from Tonkawa Trail south to FM 2410 and was funded in part by a 2023 grant, she said.

According to Ramirez, the original completion date for phase two was Oct. 26, 2025, but the schedule changed after the project encountered conflicts with a major sewer line, stormwater outfalls and water-service line crossings. "The overall net change to the project as of January 1, 2026 is a 2.24% increase in cost with 80 days added to the project schedule," she said.

Ramirez also cited delays in material deliveries tied to quantity changes and traffic-control adjustments after drivers bypassed control devices. She said the city anticipates one additional change due to excessive weather that will extend the schedule to the end of March 2026.

The current schedule shows the northern portion of the roadway will be open to traffic by the end of January 2026; the southern portion will take longer because construction of the traffic signal at FM 2410 and Warriors Path is scheduled for February 2026.
