Supervisor Hens read the proclamation into the record, citing the Stonewall Inn events of June 1969 and urging action to make schools and community spaces safe and welcoming. "Now therefore, be it resolved that we, the Story County Board of Supervisors, do hereby proclaim June 2026 as LGBTQIA plus Pride Month in Story County and encourage citizens to inspire equity, create alliances, celebrate diversity, and establish safe environments in our schools and communities throughout the county," the proclamation stated.
The proclamation was moved and seconded and adopted by voice vote. The Board took a photo following adoption.
The proclamation’s text frames the month as an occasion to reflect on the LGBTQIA+ rights movement and reaffirm county support for protections and dignity for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
