The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners on June 4 approved several routine and contract items during its regular meeting following the special budget session.
Key approvals included: a contract award to Greybar LLC for uninterruptible power supply maintenance services not to exceed $19,768; a second amendment to an agreement with Duke University adding $133,276 for a drone‑delivered automated external defibrillator (AED) research project (increasing the project total to approximately $592,700, including a $20,000 contingency); and a three‑year jail food services contract with Aramark Correctional Services LLC not to exceed $7,150,200.
Deputy CFO Lee Plunkett presented a request to draw down $3,568,289 in North Carolina education lottery proceeds to pay debt service on school capital projects; the board approved the drawdown after confirming the local Board of Education’s prior approval.
The board also unanimously adopted two proclamations: a Juneteenth National Independence Day resolution and a resolution recognizing June 15, 2026 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Sarai Rashid, 2025 Queen Juneteenth, thanked the board and invited the public to the 2026 pageant on June 19 at Atkins High School.
Two small community grants ($15,940 for Smart Start and $4,814 for Junior Achievement) were voted on separately during the special meeting earlier the same evening to accommodate commissioner recusals; both grants were approved by the eligible voting commissioners.
All contract and grant votes recorded at the regular meeting passed by unanimous voice vote unless otherwise noted.
