Board approves exemptions, denials, budget moves and bond payment in routine consent docket

At its May 18 meeting the Madison County Board approved multiple tax and freeport exemption requests, denied several late or ineligible applications, approved budget amendments and interfund transfers, and authorized payment of $9,772,089.40 from 2026B bond proceeds to Maquitta.
Madison County supervisors used the consent docket on May 18 to approve a slate of administrative and financial items including tax and freeport warehouse exemption requests, planning acknowledgements, budget amendments, and claims dockets.
The board approved a series of exemption requests presented by the tax assessor, including multiple expansion exemptions for Tower Automotive (various terms reported), a 10-year expansion exemption for Unipres Southeast USA, and freeport warehouse requests for Kasai North America and Leaderway USA. The board acknowledged that the applications had been reviewed by Makita, where applicable. At the same time, staff recommended and the board approved denials where statute or late filing warranted (Calvert Steel Technologies was recommended for denial per inventory statute; DBC Corporation and Ranger Label were denied for late filing), and the board removed defunct entities from the docket (Levi and Sunpine Corp. no longer in operation).
On finance items, the board approved budget amendments and an inter-fund cash transfer, accepted the general claims and payroll dockets, and approved payment of $9,772,089.40 to Maquitta from proceeds of bond issuance 2026B. The board also approved payroll dockets and acknowledged the tax assessor’s list of broadband exemption acknowledgements.
Sheriff Tucker asked the board to acknowledge a billing to the Mississippi Department of Corrections for $5,587.50 and to accept the inmate meal log for May 2026; both items were approved. The board conducted these items mostly by motion and voice vote with no recorded roll-call tallies in the transcript.
