County awards rural grants, approves highway purchase and fills library seats at June 2 meeting

At its June 2 meeting the Williams County Commission approved a series of administrative items including grant awards, equipment purchases and board appointments.
The commission approved the finance committee’s recommendations for the rural community grant program funded by a 1% sales tax for rural investment. Staff said five applications were received and award recommendations were consistent with eligibility rules set for populations under 5,000.
County Highway recommended purchasing a Gen 4 Mormax mower from Atmax Equipment for $352,227, including a five‑year/6,000‑hour full‑machine warranty; commissioners authorized the purchase and allowed the highway director and chairman to sign the agreement.
The commission approved filling one open corrections deputy position in the sheriff’s office and authorized the chairman to sign plat documents and a deed to convey a road to the city once the fairgrounds subdivision plat is recorded.
On library governance, the county appointed two county seats to the Joint Library Board after a library board request to readvertise the openings; commissioners moved and voted to appoint the two candidates on the record.
What’s next: staff will implement the grant allocations, execute the equipment purchase, and proceed with the plat recording and conveyance once the plat is finalized.
