County to apply for $181,480 Growing Greener Plus grant for Yellow Breeches Creek restoration

Brooke Weary told the Board of Commissioners the county is seeking DEP Growing Greener Plus grant funding of $181,480 to support stream and wetland restoration on a tributary to Yellow Breeches Creek on Shafer Drive in Penn Township.
Weary said the county would serve as the applicant while the Conservation District would manage the grant and reporting to DEP. She noted "no county funds will be used for this project," and that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has committed $32,325 in matching funding, will handle permitting and construction, and helped design the project. The grant term would run three years starting in spring 2027 with expected completion in fall 2029.
Commissioners moved and approved the application submission. Staff described expected water-quality benefits from the restoration work and confirmed a multi-year construction and reporting schedule.
