Barrington CUSD 220 honors student artists, a state high‑jump champion and a longtime coach

At its meeting, the Barrington CUSD 220 Board recognized several students and staff for achievements this year.
Superintendent Dr. Wkelman and school principals announced three student art selections that will be displayed in the district office lobby for the coming year: Amelia and Mallerie (both AP Drawing and Painting students) and Haley Stern (selected by the high school principal). Amelia described her piece as an AP project exploring predator–prey relationships using a yin‑yang motif; Mallerie said her mixed‑media piece explored how digital technology impacts real life and listed materials including alcohol markers, colored pencils, acrylic paint and ballpoint pen (about 25–30 hours of work). The board applauded all selections.
Associate principal Jeff Elberg introduced sixth‑grader Aaron Lindell, who won the IESA state high‑jump competition against older competitors and cleared 4'9½" in the winning jump‑off. The student described the thrill of clearing the bar and the personal best achieved at the state meet.
Tim Hopkins and others honored Coach Perry Peterson for his decades of coaching and success across middle‑ and high‑school sports; Peterson reflected on memorable games and thanked colleagues and family.
The board and superintendent praised students and staff and noted photographs and a video montage will be included in district communications.
