Board accepts gifts, approves personnel slate and welcomes two new staff members

The board approved Exhibit E1a accepting gifts and contributions and then approved a grouped slate of seven personnel resolutions.

Gifts accepted (Exhibit E1a) included: $524 from the Charities Aid Foundation to boys tennis, a 3D printer valued at $300 donated by Alfred Beom to Harmon, and $55,000 from the Aurora Sports Boosters. The board thanked donors and approved the gift resolutions.

The board then considered Exhibit E1b items (E1B1–E1B7) taken as a group: resignations; introductory support-staff appointments at Miller; supplemental-contract awards; employment of specialists for the next school year; one-year limited teacher contracts; a revised job description for the gifted interventionist/coordinator; and revised substitute pay rates. A board member asked Mr Roberto what changed in the gifted interventionist job description; Mr Roberto said the majority of changes were adjustments (noted as edits). The board approved the personnel resolutions by roll call.

Administration introduced two of five new staff members present at the meeting. Becky Quinn was introduced as the district’s new gifted interventionist and coordinator, with administrative and curriculum experience in South Carolina and Chagrin Falls. Lisa Mlan was introduced as a new counselor at Harmon with prior middle-school counseling experience in Independence. Both were welcomed by the board and audience.

Why it matters: Gifts support extracurricular programs and equipment; personnel approvals staff classrooms and services for the upcoming school year. The revised job description and substitute-pay changes affect staffing operations and program delivery.
