The Aurora City Board of Education on a unanimous roll call approved the district's financial statements for the fiscal year and voted to proceed with placing a proposed school building bond on the November ballot.
The treasurer said June expenditures exceeded revenues by about $3.4 million but that the district closed the fiscal year with roughly $13.9 million in general‑fund cash, describing operating revenues as up year‑over‑year largely because of a recently passed levy. Administration noted one‑time timing effects from restricted federal grants (ESSER advances) that will be repaid into the general fund when federal dollars arrive.
Board members asked for and received clarifications about the five‑year revenue and expenditure trends, personnel cost increases and the accounting treatment of grant advances. The board then voted to accept the financial statements (Resolution D1) by roll call. The clerk recorded affirmative votes from Mrs Mahalis, Mr Aum, Mrs Click, Mrs Schneider, Mr Sabulski and the chair.
On the bond timeline, administration said the resolution to proceed is the second of two required actions to get the measure on the ballot; once combined with the county auditor's estimate the administration will file with the Board of Elections. Mr Roberto described a voter outreach plan that includes community events, meetings with Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce and targeted presentations at senior centers and the Walker Center.
The board approved the bond‑proceed resolution by roll call; administration said printed informational materials will be posted online and distributed at community briefings ahead of the November election.
The board did not set a final bond amount in open session; administration said the auditor's estimate and the accompanying ballot language will be available as the board completes required pre‑election steps. The board plans additional public engagement events and will post materials online as they are finalized.
