The Marshall Public School District board voted to increase a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) instructor position from 0.6 full-time equivalent (FTE) to full-time for the current year, a change that district staff said would be covered by existing youth skills training grant funds.
A presenter explained the CNA class runs out of the district's CTI center and functions like a college-level course. The 0.6 FTE previously meant the instructor taught three in-person days per week and students did independent work the remaining days; increasing to full-time would allow the teacher to be available to students five days a week. The presenter said the district has added medical terminology and other curriculum elements as the program has been expanded.
On funding, the presenter said the increase is planned as a one-year change paid for with money from a youth skills training grant awarded last year and would "have no additional impact to the budget" for this year; the district would seek additional grant funds for future years. The board approved the motion by voice vote.
The authorization follows routine approvals taken earlier in the meeting and was one of several personnel and program items the board adopted before adjourning.
