Commissioners Approve Interlocal Building-Inspection Agreements and Grant Two Vehicle Tax Exemptions

Ryan, the county building inspector, told the board the interlocal agreements are unchanged from two years earlier except for updated effective dates and that villages prefer the current unit-based reimbursement over a flat fee. The motion to approve the interlocal agreements passed unanimously.
Separately, the treasurer presented two motor-vehicle tax-exemption requests. The board approved an exemption for a 2015 Ford (Ford F-350) used by the Salvation Army (818 West Third Street, Grand Island) for food pickups and outreach, and exemptions for a 2017 Chevy van and a 2014 Chevy bus used by Central Nebraska Lutheran School (212 West 12th Street, Grand Island) for student transportation. One commissioner abstained from that vote because of a family employment conflict; the motion carried 6-yes, 1-abstain.
Why it matters: Interlocal inspection agreements support uniform building-safety oversight across smaller municipalities, and vehicle tax exemptions reduce operating costs for nonprofits and schools that provide community services.
