Board told district strategic plan expires next year; GSBA to aid renewal

The Harris County Board of Education received an update on the district strategic plan during the June 4 committee meeting and was told staff will begin work to produce the next plan in the fall.
Dr. Denny reminded trustees that the current strategic plan adopted July 14, 2022 will lapse at the end of the next school year and that staff will begin the planning phase around September–October to develop the successor plan. He directed trustees to the district Assembly portal where the strategy map, goal areas and performance objectives are published.
Dr. Patterson walked the board through key performance indicators (KPIs) and explained why some measures—such as students earning "ready to work" certificates—can show a temporary decline when Career, Technical, and Agricultural (CTA) pathway structures change. "We might see a little bit of a lag on some of those numbers," he said, noting pathway redesigns and the timing of end-of-pathway assessments influence year-to-year comparisons. He also noted graduation-rate data will not be available until August when summer graduates are declared.
Board members were told the district will use Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) resources to support the planning process. Trustees will receive additional materials and timelines as staff prepare the next strategic-plan development schedule.
Staff asked trustees to review the balance scorecard and KPI reports on Assembly to familiarize themselves with current measures ahead of the fall planning phase.
