The Colts Neck Board of Education voted to approve action items 1–9 during its Feb. 4 Committee-of-the-Whole meeting. The motion passed on roll call with all members voting yes.
Item 9 is a resolution authorizing the district to apply for a Local Recreation Improvement Grant administered by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Administration said the program typically awards grants in $75,000 buckets and that the current annual fund is about $10 million statewide; the district seeks funding to offset replacement costs for original, decades-old flooring in the primary-school gym and cafeteria.
"It's a local recreation improvement grant ... this year's fund is about $10 million, I believe, and they typically grant in buckets of $75,000, which is the recommended request," said the administration representative who described the program. The application deadline required placing the resolution on the agenda on short notice.
Trustees thanked staff who prepared the application and noted the timing was tight; administration said it will finalize the application before the deadline and report back to the board on results.
Votes at a glance: the board recorded an affirmative roll call and the motion carried. No formal amendments were adopted at the meeting.
Next steps: administration will submit the DCA application and report results. If the district receives an award, trustees will consider next steps for contracting and project scheduling.
