Somers recognizes Pleasant View Farms and fills multiple commission seats

The Somers Board of Selectmen opened its June 4 meeting by recognizing Pleasant View Farms as the Economic Development Commission’s featured business for May 2026.
Melissa Zelic, speaking for the Economic Development Commission alongside Matthew Bags and Karen Murdoch, praised the Lipton family and Pleasant View Farms for more than 100 years of contributions to Somers’ agricultural heritage. "We are proud to recognize Pleasant View Farms for their long‑standing contributions to Somers," Zelic said.
Under the consent agenda the board accepted a written resignation from Ann Lebec of the Cultural Commission and approved the appointment of Sebastian Ryder Bazera to fill a vacancy on that commission. The board then moved to reestablish a Special Projects Committee (a chartered body) and approved nominations to populate the eight‑member committee, including representatives drawn from the board of selectmen, board of finance, board of education, library board, the town CFO, the DPW director, a construction‑skilled community member, and an at‑large member. The DPW/EMD director, Todd Rolland, described the committee’s role as a clearinghouse for capital and infrastructure projects and said the group would initially meet monthly to review RFPs and project backgrounds.
All listed appointments and the resignation acceptance were approved by voice vote during the consent agenda.
What’s next: the Cultural Commission and the new Special Projects Committee will begin filling their schedules and, where required by charter, operate within the term expirations set at the time of nomination.
