Sports Foundation seeks field upgrades; committee allocates funds in 2026 budget

"Our request was a joint venture to convert the underutilized Babe Ruth size field two at Laird Road into two usable Little League fields," said Jimmy Carfora, vice president of the Colts Neck Sports Foundation, describing a project that would include fencing, irrigation, bleachers and scoreboards. Carfora said the foundation planned to contribute $105,000 and asked the township for $155,000; the committee's 2026 municipal budget included $125,000 toward the project.
Committee members praised the foundation's volunteer work and suggested continued coordination, including an invitation for the foundation to present routinely to the committee so elected officials can track multi-year plans. Kyle Hrymack and other residents urged the township to pursue a 5' and 10'year capital plan for recreation assets and to prioritize basic amenities like restroom facilities; committee members said an ad hoc bathrooms team had its first meeting and intends a "humble" buildable project that can be expanded over time.
School Board President Angeli Volpe used public-comment time to echo gratitude for the sports programs and to report that the board planned a tentative budget featuring a third consecutive 0% tax increase at the May public hearing.
The committee encouraged continued collaboration between the foundation, schools and staff to advance the projects while monitoring budget implications.
