Board briefed on Phase 1A bid opening and summer construction for linkways and windows

Elliot, speaking for district facilities planning, told the board the Phase 1A public bid opening is scheduled for June 10 and that staff will vet the low bidders and present award recommendations at the board’s next meeting on June 16.

He described the planned summer construction sequence: linkway reconstruction will begin in July, with crews leveling linkways down to foundations and temporary sidewalk bridges and covered walkways to preserve ADA access. Elliot warned the campus will “look for a while like three separate buildings” while linkways are removed and said elevator cab lead times are among the critical path items.

Window replacement packages have a roughly 12‑week manufacturing lead time and are expected to begin in September–October, Elliot said. The capital timeline provided in the meeting calls for an aggressive summer mobilization and an anticipated substantial completion for Phase 1A in December (the district later noted Phase 1B and Phase 2 are at earlier design and SED review stages).

Elliot also addressed staff continuity and noise mitigation: contractors will be authorized to mobilize after 3 p.m. during the school year, and the district will schedule heavy demolition and noisy work in second shift or summer windows to minimize disruption for year‑round employees.

Attribution and next steps: Elliot presented the bid and construction timeline; staff will post addenda answering vendor questions from a June 27 walkthrough, open bids on June 10 and aim to present awards to the board at the June 16 meeting. The board asked follow‑up questions about staff relocations and safety planning and received assurances staff can be temporarily relocated and that principals have been briefed.
