Greenwood Park Board approves contracts for EMB renovation, HVAC repairs, splash pad and court work

The Greenwood Park Board approved several contracts and purchases spanning building design, maintenance work and park equipment at its meeting.
Treasurer Gerald presented a professional-services proposal from Browning Day (architect) to assess and design renovations of the existing 6,000-square-foot EMB building and a 9,000-square-foot annex; "Their fee for your consideration is $89,500," Gerald said. Staff said the fee would be funded from park impact fees and the board voted to approve the design-services contract.
The board approved a preventive-maintenance agreement with Saxon Mechanical for community-center HVAC service quoted at $752.02 and authorized a Sexton Mechanical service contract to repair a Field House compressor and address a refrigerant leak for $17,770.66. Staff said the compressor work was urgent due to upcoming hot weather.
For City Centre Park, staff described a demolition and removal contract for the basketball courts to remove asphalt layers, fencing and posts, quoted at $13,325; demo was planned for after Labor Day to avoid peak usage. Separately, staff read bids to reconstruct the City Centre basketball courts; two bids were opened and the lowest responsive and responsible bid from All Star Paving for $123,935 was accepted.
The board also approved several event use agreements for community activities (an Abigail Sparks summer send-off, Greenwood Marching Band events, a Greenwood Public Library reading event, and police department use of the amphitheater for National Night Out).
Parks Director Rob Taylor presented a special-purchase determination to buy a splash pad and associated equipment from Landscape Structures for Northeast Park at a cost not to exceed $107,544. Taylor said the purchase is "100% funded by that grant" (a Community Development Block Grant) and the board approved the purchase and authorized the legal department to finalize terms; one board member voted 'nay' on the motion.
Board votes on these items were taken individually; most motions carried unanimously or by clear majority. No contract awards in this meeting committed construction funds beyond the purchases and design agreements approved; staff will return with project-level schedules and cost opinions as contracts are implemented.
