Commission approves emergency appeals rule to correct filing language

The Tennessee Public Charter School Commission approved an emergency correction to rule 1185-01-01-.04 on first and final reading during its June 2 special meeting.
General Counsel Ashley Thomas said the rule concerns the commission’s amendment appeals process and was brought as an emergency filing after staff discovered language that the commission had voted to remove in a prior cycle was inadvertently included in the latest filing. Thomas told commissioners the Secretary of State’s office indicated a new filing was required to correct the error.
Commissioner Eddie Smith moved to approve the emergency rule and Commissioner Terrence Patterson seconded. The rule passed by roll call vote. Chair Richards noted that all virtual meeting votes would be taken by roll call and that the meeting had been convened under TCA 8-44-108 to permit electronic participation.
Chair Richards said the meeting record would be posted on the commission’s website and that staff would proceed with the filing steps requested by the Secretary of State.
