At the Sept. 2 meeting Dolores County social services staff reported current program statistics and operational updates.
Staff said the office is handling about 543 eligibility cases across adult financial, Colorado Works, employment‑first, medical assistance, SNAP and workforce programs; 42 child‑support cases; eight adult‑protection cases; two child‑protection cases; and two child-care cases (one of which will end this month as a result of a fraud investigation). The office explained that fraud investigations are performed by external investigators in other counties and that local staff do not have specialized fraud investigators on staff; recovery of funds and program sanctions depend on investigation outcomes and the amount in question.
Staff also announced that Dolores County met a 95% timeliness threshold for SNAP processing and received recognition from the governor’s office. Commissioners discussed staffing constraints, the administrative burden of Medicaid redeterminations required under HR1 (described in the meeting as moving to six‑month eligibility checks for certain programs beginning Dec. 2026), and the need to plan for increased workload. Board members offered to be available for follow up when actionable requests for assistance are identified by staff.
