Mars resident asks board to prioritize elementary playground and longer recess

Rebecca Mueller, a Mars resident who gave public comment to the board, asked trustees to accelerate work on playground access at Mars Area Elementary and to consider operational changes to give students more play time.
"I would just like to kindly ask that you consider prioritizing finishing one of the two proposed playground areas," Mueller said, suggesting that the district could open a grass play area first and add equipment later. She requested a rotating recess schedule that would use the PC playground, ball fields, the MAE courtyard and adjacent fields, and recommended a 30‑minute recess block to offset travel time to offsite play areas.
Mueller also asked the board to revisit rules on board‑approved volunteers escorting and supervising students, saying that volunteers could reduce pressure on teachers for transport and supervision. She suggested the district consider leasing a bus to move students between sites; she noted PTO recently paid $1,400 to bus students roughly six miles for a field trip.
Board members thanked her for the suggestions. The transcript records no formal board action on the requests at this meeting.
