County approves $3,940 Title 3 request for flood-response equipment to improve field communications

The Lincoln County planning department requested $3,940 in Title 3 funds to purchase personal-protective equipment and communications hardware to support flood emergency response and to create a publicly available GIS map layer for hazard reporting.
Jesse, the county Flood Plain Administrator, told commissioners the equipment would let field teams locate and report hazards in real time to courthouse and emergency management contacts to update the public website and media. "The requested equipment will allow us to create a publicly available online GIS map layer which can be used for better dissemination of information and location of hazards and closures to the public in a timely manner," Jesse said.
Commissioners discussed utility beyond emergencies and confirmed the request fits Title 3 allowed uses. After a brief discussion and public affirmation from the audience and a state MA office reviewer, the commission approved the Title 3 request.
The planning department said post-meeting it would order equipment and integrate it with existing mapping resources.
