Council Member Williams introduced a resolution reaffirming the City of Bellingham’s commitment to basic constitutional rights and denouncing recent federal immigration-enforcement tactics that, the resolution says, endanger public safety and constitutional protections.
"We wanted to address the steps that we're currently taking and for the future consider taking to resist the actions being done by the current federal administration," Williams said, explaining the resolution was developed to reassure residents and align municipal branches in protecting human and civil rights.
Committee members had no further questions at the time and the committee recorded a 3–0 vote to forward the resolution to the full council for additional consideration.
