Resident urges cameras, code enforcement after repeated dumping, speeding and dirt-bike complaints

During the public-comment portion of the Pennsauken Township Committee meeting, resident Pete Perez (2444 39th Street) laid out neighborhood concerns and asked the township for enforcement and practical remedies.

Perez said trash and bulk dumping is recurring on Chestnut Street between 36th and 43rd, including at an empty lot near an old, demolished house. He asked the township to consider placing a camera or other monitoring to identify those dumping items and noted that volunteers and police had been responsive in removing refuse when reported.

Perez also raised safety concerns about speeding on streets that lack sidewalks, saying drivers slow for visible speed-measurement boxes but resume during other hours. He told the committee that dirt-bike and quad activity typically occurs weekends in the afternoon without helmets and with multiple riders on a single bike, and he requested stepped-up enforcement.

On parking, Perez described a property where many occupants and multiple vehicles create chronic obstruction; he said one vehicle is regularly moved only to avoid enforcement and remains in damaged condition. He said he had reported problems to code enforcement previously and asked the township to inspect the property if given an address.

Committee members and staff thanked Perez for his report and called him the block’s “eyes and ears,” saying they would ask inspectors to visit the area and that staff would follow up by phone or email the next day. Officials did not commit to a specific enforcement schedule during the meeting but indicated they would attempt to locate the address and pursue code or police action as appropriate.

The committee closed the public-comment period after additional procedural motions and moved to adjourn.
