Commissioner Hammonds summarized the compensation-board recommendation and said the increase is tied to retention issues and statutory linkages (for example, deputy pay is connected to the sheriff’s base salary). County staff reported interest income from an LATCF (Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Fund) investment of about $243,689, which offsets the cost of the raises. With the investment proceeds applied, the fiscal-year generalized impact to the county’s general fund was estimated at roughly $45,700.
Commissioners said the increase is intended to improve retention and make county positions more competitive with private-sector wages. The board directed HR to implement the change and to begin more regular budget meetings to align department requests with available resources.
The commissioners approved the 5% increase by voice vote; public comment referenced the detailed pay-board record available online and encouraged review of that documentation.
