De Pere Public Works honored with national APWA award for snow and ice control

The City of De Pere Department of Public Works was recognized June 2 with state and national APWA Excellence in Snow and Ice Control awards, Mayor James G. Boyd told the Common Council. The mayor highlighted the department's use of modern equipment, GPS and camera technology and its focus on environmental stewardship and staff training.
Tony Feitzinger, the city's street superintendent, said the 13-person street crew maintains all roads and that the award recognizes both staff effort and elected officials' budgetary support for equipment and technology. "This is a community award from elected officials supporting in the budget the equipment and technology that we need," Feitzinger said, adding that the city was among six national honorees after 39 were forwarded from the state chapter.
The mayor and council applauded Public Works and invited a photo with staff and the awards. No policy action was taken; the recognition was ceremonial and intended to acknowledge operations and public-safety work during winter events.
