The commission approved a sole‑source purchase and waiver of competitive bidding to buy AMI water-meter components from Core & Main LP (Neptune-compatible) in an amount not to exceed $600,000 through June 30, 2027.
Scott Morris explained the city began its automated‑metering-installation in 2009 using Neptune infrastructure; because the existing AMI system requires Neptune meters, the city regularly purchases replacement meters from the Neptune distributor. Morris said the approved amount would purchase roughly a year's worth of replacement meters and estimated it would buy about 1,650 of the smallest meters at current pricing.
Commissioners approved the sole‑source waiver and the purchase by a 6–0 vote. Staff said the action meets the city's procurement ordinance requirements for documenting sole‑source justification when a vendor is the exclusive provider compatible with existing infrastructure.
