The Enid City Commission on Tuesday held a public hearing and then approved an ordinance to vacate part of a 40‑foot platted roadway easement/right‑of‑way along North 26th Street between the 2500 blocks of East Randolph Avenue and East Maple Avenue, while retaining a 40‑foot public street right‑of‑way as shown on the territorial town site map.
Property owner David Richie attended the hearing and confirmed the city's intention is to return excess right‑of‑way where the original state‑highway bypass alignment is no longer needed; the closure will not physically close the road, Richie said. Commissioners confirmed the request had been recommended for approval by the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission (MAPC).
Mayor Mason called for a motion on the companion administrative ordinance; the motion to approve carried 6–0.
The ordinance language and map were included in the meeting packet; staff said the retained 40‑foot street right‑of‑way meets current roadway standards and the vacated portions revert to private ownership subject to the terms in the ordinance.
