Personnel Commission touts new annual report, internships and staff recognition at board meeting

Becky French, chair of the Personnel Commission, presented the commission's 2025—26 annual report and said the new electronic format focuses on people: staff profiles, departmental highlights and awards. "Our annual report highlights how the personnel commission supports students by supporting the people who serve them," French said.
Rachel Robinson Vang, who organized the new format, introduced a video recognizing retirees and led board members and retirees in brief remarks and photos. The presentation underscored the commission's recent workload: multiple classification and reclassification reviews, new job classifications (vice-principal's assistant and behavioral interventionist), and a clerical professional-development workshop.
French read recruitment and staffing metrics included in the report: 516 classified applications received; 49 exams administered; 108 candidates tested; 91 successfully passed the exam; 68 hires into classified positions; and 443 regular classified employees currently serve the district. She described goals for 2026—27 including modernizing job families, expanding recruitment and strengthening career advancement paths.
The commission also unveiled a new student internship program with four pathways (technology, culinary services, maintenance and fiscal services) intended to expand equitable career-exploration opportunities for students and create future workforce pipelines. French credited staff and site leaders for collaborations that enabled the program and singled out several staff for recognition.
Trustees praised the report format and the commission's outreach. "This makes it real," said Trustee Mrs. Roger, noting the value of connecting photos and names to the work of classified employees. Trustee Buckman said he appreciates the emphasis on job training that supports family-sustaining careers.
The board paused the regular agenda to show the retiree video and to invite retirees and families to refreshments and photos.
