Ione extends interim planner contract with Rainey Planning until permanent planner is hired

The Ione City Council on June 2 approved an extension of the interim planner agreement with Rainey Planning and Management LLC while staff readvertises for a permanent city planner.
Mr. Lee told council staff received no responses to the recent request for proposals for a full-time planner and recommended extending the interim contract, which was originally authorized in March with a $15,000 billing limit. "We did not receive any responses to the request for proposal for city planner," Mr. Lee said, and staff will re-advertise the position.
The extension is intended to allow Rainey to continue ongoing work on three prioritized matters identified by staff: zoning for the Ms. Rocka property and roughly 15 other parcels, RV storage along Highway 104, and review of a proposed gas station at Main Street and South Sacramento Street. Councilmembers said the extension would remain in place until a permanent planner is hired and that current budgeted funds would cover the interim work.
A motion to authorize the extension for ongoing planning services was seconded and passed by voice vote. Council directed staff to proceed with recruiting for a permanent planner and to continue contracting with Rainey in the interim.
