Ione council accepts 7.25-acre donation at 634 West Marlet Street for potential fire-department use

The Ione City Council voted June 2 to authorize execution of a donation agreement and accept approximately 7.25 acres at 634 West Marlet Street from Hexion Company, council staff said.
Mr. Lee told the council Hexion, a New Jersey-based company, had declared the property surplus and desired to donate it to the city for potential use by the Ione Fire Department. "Hexion has determined that this is surplus property and desires to donate it to [the] city of Ione specifically to be utilized by the Ione Fire Department," Mr. Lee said, noting the parcel is about 7.25 acres.
Josh Verinsky, staff assisting with the agreement, said the document before council is the donor's form and that minor adjustments are possible; he cautioned that the draft currently does not include an explicit restriction requiring fire-department use and that any material changes would be returned to council for approval.
Vice Mayor Rose and other councilmembers raised lingering community memory of past contamination at the site; Mr. Lee said the property was cleaned up years ago and that the donation agreement addresses contamination questions to the council's satisfaction.
The council moved to adopt Resolution No. 2026-19 authorizing staff to finalize and execute the donation agreement; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The council directed staff to report back if substantive changes to the agreement are proposed.
