Sheriff asks county board to recognize deputies; patrol calls and jail population fall slightly

The patrol lieutenant told members that call volume dropped from 778 in April to 723 in May. Deputies wrote 34 traffic citations, issued 36 written warnings and responded to 14 crashes in the reporting period; two crashes involved injuries and there were zero fatalities. The lieutenant provided these statistics as the patrol overview for the committee.
In the jail report, the jail lieutenant said the average daily population in May was 51 inmates (10 female, 41 male). The lieutenant provided a breakdown: average probation incarceration 28, pre‑sentence incarceration 15 and average sentence incarceration 8. The jail had 52 inmates the day the report was generated and reported an unemployment rate at booking of 62%.
Committee members asked for follow‑up on a recent newspaper item about jail numbers and thanked staff for the reports. The sheriff’s recognition request will be placed on the June County Board agenda for formal acknowledgment.
