Kittitas County Solid Waste and Maintenance board receives operational updates on transfer station, jail, probation and rodeo arena

Vice Chairman Brett Wachsmith and Commissioner Laura Osiadacz convened the Kittitas County Solid Waste and Maintenance meeting on April 14, 2026, at 2:05 p.m.; Chairman Cory Wright was noted as absent.
Patti Stacey, a county staff member, told the board the contract for the Cle Elum Transfer Station entrance was awarded on last week’s agenda, a pre-construction meeting is scheduled for Thursday, and a notice to proceed should follow in a couple of weeks. Stacey said the county expects site mobilization to begin after that notice.
On Research & Rescue and the county Emergency Operations Center, Stacey reported the septic system is installed and the preliminary building layout is in place. She said the board will see a change order on the next agenda to cover removal of additional trees related to site work.
Stacey provided a jail project update, saying painting is under way and the project is awaiting delivery of doors and Outdoor Recreation skylights. She and the commissioners discussed project funding and clarified the work is within budget and being paid from Jail Reserves rather than the county General Fund.
Staff also outlined the probation office move: the relocation is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, and the office is expected to be secure and open for business on Monday, April 20. The door to a storage closet is projected to be completed in May. County staff discussed the need for CJIS-certified training connected to the move.
Construction at the Rodeo Arena was described as ahead of schedule. Stacey said steel erection is underway, with the final steel shipment arriving Friday; the four corners of the stage area have been set, and the concourse bathroom is about three-quarters finished.
Under other business, Stacey informed the board that the Solid Waste Office has moved to a new location. A MRW fire inspection was being performed the day of the meeting and staff are awaiting sign-off on occupancy before resuming acceptance of waste. She added the Transfer Station has one correction item to address and that a panel for the compost facility is on back order; because of that equipment delay, completion of the office move is now estimated for July. The board also discussed a planned walk-through with the city of the existing transfer site and protocol for closing the facility.
