She said the township is reviewing other municipalities’ approaches and state guidance to develop any local safeguards and will take a fact‑driven approach to evaluating potential impacts.
Residents and speakers urged clarity about the statutory basis for denying or regulating data centers. Planning staff responded that applicants must demonstrate a permitted use in the applicable zoning district and that lack of a permitted use is the first barrier any applicant must overcome.
Officials said they will continue to monitor state recommendations and may consider ordinance changes should applications arise.
