Staff read the application identifying Marcus Lavine of Vermillion Development as the applicant and Witson Properties LLC as the property owner. The request seeks to rezone parcels listed in the staff packet from Interstate Commerce to institutional zoning.
Several commissioners noted the applicant was not present at the meeting. One commissioner expressed concern about the proposed use, saying the application variously referred to 'senior housing,' 'skilled care' and 'nursing home' in different places and asked for clarification at the public hearing. That same commissioner said they would vote against the rezoning 'at this point' absent clearer information.
Planning staff told the commission the applicant is expected to appear at the public hearing to answer use and site-related questions.
The commission moved and seconded a motion to set the public hearing for July 1; a roll-call vote recorded approval by the members present.
Next steps: the rezoning request will be the subject of a public hearing on July 1, where the applicant is expected to present and answer questions before the commission makes any recommendation to city council.
