Court approves CIS and SAFE renewals, operational and special-project grants

Insurance broker John Anderson, speaking for Wheatland Insurance, told the court the CIS pool rate showed a negative 3.25% change and outlined coverages (liability, auto, property, flood, earthquake, crime and cyber). The court discussed cyber risk and statewide trends in police-class workers' compensation claims (PTSD-related claims driving costs). Commissioners approved the CIS property and liability insurance proposal and SAFE proposal by voice vote.
Staff presented the operational support grant recommendations (18 total applications across streams) and the special-project grant recommendations (11 applications), noting adjustments where match requirements were not met and where capital items were prioritized. The court voted to approve operational support and special-project awards for FY26–27 as presented.
What happens next: staff will finalize insurance contract paperwork, issue ID cards and process premium payments; grant recipients will be notified and awards disbursed per program timelines.
