Solano County proclaims June 2026 Philippine Cultural Month, honors Vallejo festival’s 40th year

The Solano County Board of Supervisors on June 2 adopted a resolution recognizing June 2026 as Philippine Cultural Month, honoring Filipinx history and local community institutions that organizers said have served residents since 1946.

The proclamation, read into the record by the clerk and approved by vote, noted historical ties and milestones including the founding of the Filipino Community of Solano County in 1946 and the long tradition of the Vallejo Pista Sanagón. "We observe the month of June as Philippine Cultural Month to honor Filipino American heritage and history and to celebrate their vibrant culture and significant contributions," the proclamation states.

Annie Frius Ramos, president of the Filipino Community of Solano County, Inc., described the organization’s origins and programs and invited the public to the Vallejo Pista Sanagón festival. "For eight decades, our organization has stood as a symbol of unity, culture, services, and resilience within our community," Ramos said, thanking volunteers and naming event leaders.

Mary Medina, vice chair of Vallejo Pista Sanagón, emphasized family storytelling and invited residents to the festival Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mare Island coal sheds. "Generation after generation, Filipino Americans contribute to the strength and diversity of our county through service, leadership, and community involvement," she said.

The board’s recognition is symbolic; no county funds were listed in the proclamation. The festival organizers said the event draws thousands and provides performance and small‑business opportunities for local artists and vendors.

The meeting moved on after a brief photo opportunity and applause; the procurement or logistical details for the festival were not discussed on the record.
