The Lexington Town Council unanimously approved final reading of an ordinance on Feb. 2 to annex the Royal Creek subdivision into the town after the council received a petition signed by 83% of the property owners.
Council member KS reported that Royal Creek is an 83‑lot single‑family subdivision on the 300 block of Hope Ferry Road. The planning commission recommended annexation with protected residential zoning and classified Stately Way, Royal Creek Drive and Majestic Court as local residential streets. Council member KS moved for final reading and invited the new residents to “welcome to the neighborhood.” The motion was seconded and the council approved the annexation by voice vote.
Lexington’s police chief (Chief Ring) addressed whether the annexation would place additional burdens on public safety resources, telling the council that patrols would cover the subdivision and that the department would be able to handle calls in the area. The chief’s comments came during council discussion about infrastructure and service impacts.
The annexation ordinance will bring the 83‑lot subdivision into town limits and apply the town’s zoning and service framework to the area. The planning commission’s recommendation and the petition supporting annexation were cited during council discussion. The council approved the measure unanimously.
