Council to consider tighter Ice House market rules after vendors no‑showed

"Vendors must give written notice by 10:00 a.m. on the Thursday prior to the market so that we can notify other businesses that they could then attend," Mets said, describing the proposed communication requirement and an escalating enforcement approach: a warning for a first no‑show, a $20 fine on a second offense, and possible seasonal removal on a third.
Mets also proposed reducing individual vendor space from 10x10 feet to 7x10 feet to add capacity. "We could fit all 56 under the market if we reduce from a 10x10 space to a 7x10 space," he said, adding that the town’s largest vendor count last year was 56. He described a vendor priority order that would place farmers and growers first, returning craft vendors second, resellers and new craft vendors third, and nonprofits fourth. Mets recommended a May 1 vendor registration cutoff and adoption of an online vendor‑management platform to assign tables and communicate with vendors.
Council members questioned enforcement mechanics and sanctions. Some said a ban for repeat no‑shows would be preferable to trying to collect fines; others supported a modest fine combined with discretion for staff in cases of medical or weather issues. After discussion, Councilman Smith moved and Councilman K seconded a motion to place the proposed market rules on the Feb. 2 council meeting agenda; the motion passed by voice/raise‑hand vote.
