Lancaster council accepts appointments, adopts budget calendar and approves state grant requests; District 5 councilor announces resignation

At its Jan. 27 meeting, the Lancaster City Council approved a slate of board appointments and reappointments across city boards and commissions, including reappointing members across building, electrical, planning and grievance boards. Council voted 5–0 to appoint Kendrick Cunningham to the Board of Electrical Examiners and reappointed several members by general motion.
Council adopted the FY2026–27 budget calendar with key dates including a departmental goals meeting set for Feb. 28 and projected adoption in June. Council also approved three state appropriation requests: $650,000 for police vehicles and equipment and $3,431,616 to extend the Lindsey Pettis Greenway to the Springdale Recreation Center; both resolutions were approved by roll call.
Council approved Resolution 26-01 to provide utility maintenance and inspection services to the town of Fort Lawn’s new lift station under a reimbursement agreement and authorized a mutual-aid law-enforcement agreement with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department (Resolution 26-04). Both measures passed by roll call.
Separately, Council member Taylor announced an immediate resignation from the District 5 seat citing worsening health. The council offered appreciation for the member’s long service and expressed plans to address the vacancy according to city rules.
