Mayor Glover and representatives of Rivers Casino and Rush Street Gaming on Saturday celebrated the topping‑off of the Landing Hotel at Rivers Casino in Portsmouth, calling the milestone a sign of local economic growth.
"On behalf of a grateful city council, the citizens of Portsmouth, thank you all and enjoy the afternoon," Mayor Glover said, noting the project’s scale and local benefits. He described the hotel as an eight‑story development with 106 guest rooms and said the project has brought "approximately 200 construction jobs" to the community and is expected to create about 60 permanent positions when operations begin.
A Rivers Casino / Rush Street Gaming representative, speaking after the mayor, thanked the city’s leaders and investors and said the company is "thrilled to mark the near completion of the steel frame of the Landing Hotel here in Portsmouth." The representative singled out company leadership including Neil Bloom, Tim Draoff and Antonio Perez and said the hotel was part of a longer vision to expand the area’s hospitality offerings.
Both the mayor and the Rivers representative emphasized anticipated economic spillovers: officials said the hotel should increase overnight visitors, support conferences and events, and drive more activity for nearby restaurants, shops and other businesses. The representative also noted the project will contribute new hospitality tax revenue for the city.
The ceremonial remarks wrapped with organizers introducing Brian Donahghue to speak next. Attendees responded with chants of "Heat" during the event.
The ceremony was promotional in tone and focused on the project’s claimed economic impacts; officials did not provide independent verification for the job or revenue estimates during the remarks, and no formal approvals or votes were recorded at the event.
