Mountain View staff preview summer events, entertainment‑zone pilot and Makers Market

Staff for the City of Mountain View briefed the Downtown Committee on a slate of summer activations designed to draw residents to Castro Street and the downtown core.
Amanda Rotell, economic vitality manager, highlighted Music on Castro (concerts June–September), a newly launched Mountain View Makers Market (more than 30 vendor applications so far, with an expectation of over 60), and a mini pitch downtown for open play and activations. She also described a foot‑golf course at Qua Park and pop‑up business opportunities tied to the mini pitch.
On entertainment operations, Rotell described a pilot of an entertainment zone that will be tested during the July 18–19 weekend of watch parties for tournament matches. The city will hold downtown office hours in front of Red Rock Coffee (Tuesdays 11 a.m.–1 p.m.) to field questions from businesses and residents about the entertainment zone, patio renewals and grants. Staff plans outreach materials at the table and signposting during those hours.
Rotell said an information session for vendor applicants will be held Thursday, with a Spanish‑language session scheduled for Monday, June 8. She encouraged members to share flyers once staff circulates them and noted the events page mountainview.gov/summersoccer for updates.
Committee members suggested coordination with neighboring cities and regional partners to better position Mountain View as a nearby watch‑party hub. Staff described efforts to avoid scheduling conflicts with adjacent cities and to work with the chamber and business associations on promotions and operational responsibilities.
The committee also heard a brief update that the tech showcase on July 30 is a demonstration event (no sales) and staff said they had reached out several times to Repair Cafe organizers to invite participation but had not yet received a response.
Staff will continue outreach with vendors and businesses and return with final schedules and operational details for the entertainment‑zone pilot and watch‑party activations.
