Resident urges better livestreaming; commissioner asks council to extend charter committee term

A resident told the Compton Charter Review Committee that meetings were not being livestreamed or readily available and urged staff to post watch links prominently on agendas and social media.
"This meetings are not being um live streamed or recorded for the community," the resident said during public comment, adding the meeting minutes were not appearing on the city clerk's webpage and urging greater transparency.
A staff member responded that committee meetings are listed on the city clerk homepage under agendas and that staff record meetings. The staff member said they would work with the public information officer to make links prominent on social media and that they would ensure the charter committee page includes all meetings and recordings.
Separately, Commissioner Gideon asked the committee to formally recommend that the City Council extend the charter committee's term beyond the current less-than-one-year limit. Gideon argued that repeated short sunsets have prevented comprehensive charter reform in the past and requested that the extension proposal be placed on the committee's next meeting agenda.
"If our goal is to truly modernize the charter and bring it into alignment with current governance standards, we need continuity," Commissioner Gideon said, asking that the extension be agendaized and that a full copy of his proposal be included in the minutes.
Chairman Griffin agreed to put Gideon's request on a future agenda. The committee then moved to adjourn.
