The reports, Crosby said, cover inventories, authorized uses, training requirements, compliance procedures, and public‑input processes for the Sheriff’s Department, Probation Department and the District Attorney’s Office.
Crosby outlined items that state law defines as military equipment for reporting purposes — a definition that extends beyond equipment used by the armed services to include drones, armored vehicles, certain munitions and projectile launchers, breaching tools, and suppression munitions. He recounted the county’s 2022 adoption of use policies and ordinances and the requirement for annual community engagement following public posting of the reports.
There were no public requests to speak on this item. The board voted unanimously to find the agencies complied with Government Code requirements and to renew the existing ordinances that authorize each agency’s identified equipment.
The renewed ordinances remain subject to annual review and modification if the board later finds a category of equipment does not comply with the statute.
