Deputy Ren told the Weddington Town Council on Nov. 10 that public-safety activity in October showed mixed trends: vehicle crashes rose slightly, commercial burglaries increased, and targeted nighttime traffic enforcement generated arrests and dozens of citations.
Ren reported 581 calls for service in October (up from 562), an increase in wrecks from 27 to 28, and three commercial burglaries in the Weddington Corners area. He said preventive patrols and a traffic saturation operation on Oct. 25 involving local and county task forces produced two DWI arrests, one drug seizure, three tows and about 40 motor-vehicle citations during the four-hour saturation window.
Ren praised recently installed license-plate-reader (LPR) cameras for helping investigators track vehicles and said LPR data assisted a quick arrest after a robbery. He urged residents to report suspicious activity and warned about holiday impaired driving, saying, "If your lips touch the bottle, your feet don't touch the throttle," and reminding residents that THC can also produce impairment he can test for.
Ren also said traffic stops rose from 57 to 94 for the month and that deputies will continue night saturation patrols in areas of concern. He encouraged residents to call if they see suspicious vehicles or drivers and noted that deputies are coordinating with neighboring agencies on enforcement.
