Mayor highlights House approval of ZIP‑code measure and asks residents to contact senators

At the Aug. 11 meeting the council played a short clip from the U.S. House in which Rep. Mark Harris spoke in favor of a provision to give Weddington a unique ZIP code. The mayor said the House action cleared a first hurdle and asked residents to email Rep. Harris's office to thank him and to contact U.S. Senators in support of the measure.
"We're hoping this will clear up a lot of confusion about property taxes, voting precincts and addresses," the mayor said when introducing the clip. Councilmembers said a unique ZIP code could reduce misdirected mail and make addresses and municipal services clearer for residents.
The council's comments were largely an encouragement to residents to engage with federal representatives as the bill proceeds to the Senate; no formal town action was taken beyond the request that residents contact congressional offices.
