The Weddington Town Council unanimously adopted a comprehensive rewrite of Appendix 2B of the Unified Development Ordinance on Aug. 11, 2025, a text amendment staff and the planning‑board subcommittee said will standardize the documents required for major development applications.
Planning staff said the rewrite enumerates submission items (now labeled B1, B2, etc.) and clarified that a complete application must include the identification and delineation of proposed septic systems — including drain fields, repair areas and associated infrastructure — plus evidence of permitting activity or approval from the appropriate external agency (commonly the state or county permitting authority). Greg, the town planner, said the change is intended to give both the planning board and council confidence that technical items have been vetted before the town acts.
Council members praised the subcommittee and planning board for the work. "This clarifies numerous things and should make our job a lot easier in the future," one councilmember said. The council also accepted a formal land‑use consistency statement finding the amendment neither inconsistent with nor contrary to the town's adopted land‑use plan.
The council voted to adopt the amendment as revised and directed staff to incorporate the defined term "delineation" where used in the document. The adoption is effective immediately for future applications; staff said in‑progress applications will be held to the new standard where applicable or asked to provide missing verification documentation before final planning‑board consideration.
