Wilson County solid waste director reports lower recycling volume, higher revenue; board plans to bill fairgrounds

In a summary of monthly operations the director said the landfill received 943 cubic yards in May and that fiscal year-to-date revenue is "a little over $239,000," with one month remaining in the fiscal year. He said recycling tonnage was "down about 64 tons," but recycling revenue rose by roughly $500 to about $29,000 for May.
The director also reported convenience-center activity, saying the county "pulled 450 loads from the convenience centers" and that those loads either went to Smith County or were brought to the landfill for processing.
Board members pressed for clarity about compactor service at the county fairgrounds. The director said the county hauls approximately "10 to 13 loads" during the fair and that the fairgrounds previously paid the county but "we hadn't gotten paid in a few years." He added, "I'll make sure they get a bill this year." The board discussed a possible flat event fee (suggestions in the meeting included roughly $35–$40) to cover hauling costs and tipping fees.
The director announced upcoming holiday schedule changes for operations: landfill and convenience centers will be closed for the Juneteenth holiday (noted as two weeks from the meeting) and described July scheduling that leaves the landfill closed July 3 while convenience centers will be closed July 4. He noted most convenience-center operators are part-time and that holiday pay was not specified.
A board member moved to approve the solid waste report "with Chad"; the motion was approved by voice vote. The meeting record does not list a formal roll-call tally or the names of mover and seconder.
The board did not take other formal action on solid-waste policy at the meeting. The director said he will follow up on billing the fairgrounds and on holiday operations ahead of the next meeting.
